General Question re ETS2

Posted: 29.03.2019, 08:07
by wombat457
I'm sorry for asking the following question here as it isn't an RTA question but am hoping I don't offend or upset anyone and didn't know where else to ask ...

Basically, my ETS2 (which I play "off line" has become very slow in loading despite having removed a number of unused mods. It looks to me as though my computer is having a hard time locating the game which makes me suspect the ETS2 files may have been corrupted or (some how) moved. Recently, the ETS2 Icon changed from the normal "Truck" to a "Globe" and it has been since then that it takes forever to load.

My question is - is there a way to reinstall ETS2 "without loosing" everything that I have done thus far? In other words, is there way to "over right" the game files while retaining my saved games and progress?

Again, I apologize to Oleg and Michael for asking this question here if it is inappropriate.

Added after 1 minute 13 seconds:
PS: Might it be possible to have an ETS/ATS General Questions Thread for such questions if not inappropriate?

Think I have figured out answer to the above question ... backup MODS and PROFILE and reinstall. Hope that's right or I'll be starting from scratch again in about 1/2 an hour :eh:

Should also copy the lastest profile 1.34.xxx folder too I think

Tommo,

Thanks mate - that is the folder I saved and was the only "Profile Folder" (of 4) that had anything in it with respect to saved games. So am hoping that is the only one I will need. If not, then it's back to square one unfortunately.

As long as you’ve done that 100% road achievement for ets2 then starting again isn’t too much of an issue (if you care about that stuff)... glad I did that before all the dlc came out ;)

Tommo,

Sorry mate, should have let you know what happened and it is all good - didn't loose a thing. Road Achievement? Is that those award things you get like long distance jobs, various fuels etc?

Don't know if I have done the Road Achievement thing or not to be honest - all I do is jobs in the hope of "maybe" seeing one of my trailers :)

Even if the problem seems already solved, I'd like to add an easier way (at least for Steam users). Instead of uninstalling and reinstalling the files, you have the possibility to check the file integrity with the steam client.

* Open your Steam library
* Right-Click on Euro Truck Simulator 2 (or ATS, of course)
* Choose "Properties"
* Choose Tab "Local Files"
* Click on "Verify integrity of game files"

Steam now checks, if the game files are okay and reloads them if neccessary.
Keep in mind that this is NOT related to your ETS2/ATS user profile but only for game files. If you (maybe) have some corrupted savegames, this method won't fix them.

best

Chris,

Thanks for the tip, that might come in handy down the track should the issue happen again. Truth is, the problem has been fixed BUT - I still don't know what caused it in the first place so it might be worth while doing what you have suggested anyway.

Just an FYI..
"progress" in terms of achievements can be quite ambiguous, especially when starting a new profile.
Your completed Achievement 'progress' remains, even when starting a new profile.
Any 'progress' under way .. eg. You've completed 5 out of 7 tasks for a single achievement .. is lost.

ETS2 Load Problem?

Posted: 06.04.2019, 23:50
by wombat457
A little while ago I had an issue with ETS2 and re downloaded it using MY steam_profile and every thing worked perfectly, for a little while. The past few days my entire game went haywire ... all of a sudden I had 260,000,000_L dollars, the game loaded straight to the job I was in the middle of and my Thrustmaster Wheel stopped working for the game - or more to the point, the brake pedal became the accelerator and the steering ceased to work and I lost everything that should have been on the first screen other than the "options, browser, online buttons".

Last night I deleted the game in its entirety (I think) and re downloaded it to start from scratch. The same issues are happening, although I managed to get the steering wheel to work properly; however, when I click on the "Continue" button to load the game, it seems to load twice and takes me to the last job I was doing instead of the "Opening Screen". The only way I can get back to the opening screen is to exit the job screen.

The video shows exactly what is happening:

https://vimeo.com/328866862

This only started happening AFTER the last time I (stupidly) took steam online and no matter what I do, I can't find the problem that remains even with a completely fresh install of ETS2.

Anyone have any idea what the hell is happening please?????

I removed ProMods leaving ONLY the RTA K200 and a skin in the Mod Manager and now ETS crashes before it loads ????? Removed ALL of the mods from Mod Manager and the game still crashes before loading???

If you’re in a pro mods location in your save then you’ll always crash because the game can’t load where you were.

I’d put pro mods back in, load the game and then get back to a standard game location/garage. Then sell all your trucks and trailers even scs ones. Then quit and remove pro mods and try again.

Recently I had an issue a few days ago where it would forget my controller was connected, so each time I played i had to re do the wizard and set it all up again. No game updates so I think it was steam which has been funny the last couple of days. Seems fine now though.

Tommo,

Your right about the pro mods thing ... I reinstalled it along with my K200 and the game now loads again but still takes me to where I left off in the "job" instead of the "opening screen". At least I can now get into it again.

You might be right about it being a steam issue too. These issues only begun AFTER I went on line with steam to see if there were any updates for the game. Basically, I am back to square one and will just continue with what I have - pretty much nothing and only 100 or so kilometers driven with the default truck.

Next problem I'm trying to sort out is how to install Pro Mods Rus Map with out it crashing the game as well ... and they call this fun! :smile: :eh:

i wonder if steam has got some connectivity issues within itself. I’m always online and is has been asking me to choose which save to use, local disk file or steam cloud, again that stopped a few days ago.

Tommo,

I have no idea BUT, these problems are certainly a VERY good reason for this game to be offered on a DVD so as not to have rely on some (questionable) third party mob.
