room217au wrote:Any part of your skin that you DON'T want metallic, ie. maybe some of the graphics, you need to include those sections of the paintjob in the Alpha channel as 'white' objects.
It's easy.
Copy all of the paintwork you want to include in the Alpha channel to a new grouped layer above the artwork originals.
Merge all the layers in that new group to one layer.
Make a colour overlay (photoshop) of white over that merged layer.
In Channels tab, copy the RED channel to make a new alpha channel.
room217au,
I've been battling with this since you posted it but am "lost". So here is what I am doing which (I think) is in accordance with your directions ...
1. Create another layer above the artwork
2. Remove everything from that layer that I want to appear metallic - ie the base color
3. Merge "all Visible" in that layer (This is now the highest layer)
I am now left with twp layers for the skin - the Paint Color Layer and the Merged layer
4. Fill the merged layer with white and change it's appearance from "Normal" to "Overlay"
This is where I get lost as PSP7 only has 2 options for the Channels:
A. Split Channel
B. Combine Channel
There is another option called "Channel Mixer" under the New Adjustment Layer menu. That shows that RED is the "Output" color.
So, this is what I end up with:
So what in heck am I doing wrong?????
Added after 39 minutes 44 seconds:
Okay, I figured it out ... and all is good, I think. I forgot to turn off the "base layer" before merging everything and used the Flatten All option instead of the Merge Visible option ...
Cheers Mate ...

I don't know about PaintShopPro, sorry. I only use PhotoShop and Illustrator.
This video is where I learned about Alpha Channels and how to use them.

Another issue I can't seem to figure out ... and that is the ETS2 Studio "Metallic Options" namely:
1. Flip Color and
2. Flake Color
To be exact, what are they? What does each do? For example, if I were to choose BLUE for the Flip Color and BLACK for the Flake Color - what effect would that have?
Secondly, in ETS2 Truck Browser I pick my truck and the paint scheme (skin) this is what shows for a particular skin:
Note how the Metallic" is an Orange color on the truck. Have no idea how I achieved that color hence my previous question. Now, I can change that color using the color selector labelled "A", and that is great; however, once I have picked the color I want and set it as the "Preset" then click "Use Pre Set" the chosen color doesn't get saved to the skin.
I changed the color of the metallic effect for this truck from the orange to a dark blue, did is outlined above but this is how the truck appears in the game:
Still showing an orangy/brown metallic effect?

In the paintshop in game, when you select this skin, do you see the three colour swatches appear above the truck?
First two are 'body colour' - so you can have a two-tone effect like a chameleon paintjob.
third one is flip flake colour - the colour of the metallic flake.
Added after 1 minute 47 seconds:
Flip colour and flake colour are covered and explained why ETS2 Studio doesn't deal with them very well, in that last Lucasi video I posted further up.

Lucasi STRONGLY suggests editing the def filke AFTER skin export.
