a slight issue with the shadows of the maxicube

Unread post #1by Explore_Transport » 05.01.2021, 20:00

I have noticed that the shadow box seems a little off as the top of the tyres seem to be lit up compared to the rest of the tyres on the tractor unit, this makes me think that the shadow box is casting the shadow on the wrong part of the tyres

Image

also the "chrome" side panels are a little too shiny.

Apart from that, nice trailer set. perhaps in a later update the option to have the option to have axles 1 and 2 steering and perhaps a road train version with a 3 axle lead dolly.

The shadow mesh for the trailer is on the ground and actually angles upwards forward of the landing gear.
I just dloaded v2.8 of the maxicube. I'll take a look too.

Is this what you mean?

My favourite ATS trailer is back!
Thanks Michal. Just about to try out the template.
Nice additions to tuning!
Excellent work.

Yep

Added after 38 minutes 59 seconds:
I will have a look around it at different light angles. However it's a nice trailer to pull

Cool. Thanks.

Managed to throw together a paintjob tonight. Truck/trailer combo, which I don't often do.
ats_20210107_001556_00.png

ats_20210107_001526_00.png

The UV template is still stretching vertically and needs to be 'squashed' a lot to make it look right on the trailer.
I used "maxicube_new_template.dds" and "new_template.png" as my template layer in Photoshop, and I chose the 'new template' from the New Template locator on the trailer box.

Can we fix this pls? That would make this trailer more awesome.

room217au, template has size 4096 by 2048
if you make it 4096 by 4096 draw and keep it at its original size 4096 by 2048 no problem
I originally did it 2048 by 2048 and it didn't look good.

template in photoshop:

Clearly, I'm doing something wrong.
Do you mean after creating the .dds, to resize to 4096x2048 before using in game?

Added after 23 minutes 57 seconds:
Solved.
- create 4096x4096 blank photoshop image
- place maxicube template and stretch to height of 4096
- create paintjob
- flatten image
- resize to 4096x2048 and save as .dds

Will this also work with Vawdrey double trailers?
but making 4096x4096, then resizing to 2048x4096 ?
Vawdrey trailers stretch horizontal. Maybe this will fix that too.

Thanks for the help :)

Update:
Okay, so it turns out the above procedure only works for the back doors of the trailer.
None of the other parts of the template line up the same way.
Sigh. Back to the drawing board.

resizing is optional. 4096x2048 for easier file size
4096x4096 21.3mb
4096x2048 10.6mb
2048x2048 5.33mb
you have to choose which size you need
If you need high-quality detail, then 4096 or 8192

you can use a template in both size 2048x2048 and size 4096x4096
example 4096x4096

Hmm. I knew I was doing something wrong. All good now though.
ats_20210108_204017_00.png

Thanks. Next step: add some more clearance lights n such. Virat's Blue Line Mod is good for that.

Explore_Transport wrote:What bits are what in the trailer template?
When you download the 7z file from MEGA and unpack it, there's a template archive with it "template_own_maxicube_4096x2048.rar"
Unpack that archive and you'll see "maxicube_new_template.dds" (it will have a blue background)
It has all the template islands labelled.
If you open a new image at 4096x4096 and place "new_template.png" as a layer, then place "maxicube_new_template.dds" in a layer above it, but reduce the opacity of that layer to 50%, you can see all the template islands AND the labels.
(Just remember to disable both these layers when saving as .dds :D

what are parts 7 through 13?

though with the shadows fixed I am just waiting for that update now (and have requested an update by email)

@Room217AU what about adding lights that glow on to the floor?

oh one thing I have noticed on the ATS VERSION ONLY - when you add SCS wheels, the track seems to be narrower when compared to the ETS version.
I think the ATS version could do with different wheels, more akin to the double wheels used on the Vawdrey B-doubles, with the appropriate fenders , (or perhaps just mudflaps as an option)

Added after 7 minutes 19 seconds:
also, the fridge is set to 72F on both versions, a little warm for frozen beef in the back!

id suggest -20 being a more applicable temperature

They are for the six small mudflaps (a pair behind each of the front 3 axles), and the long mudflap under the rear bumper.

"vehicle\trailer_owned\upgrade\paintjob\rta_box\mypaintjob\"

'mypaintjob' can be any characters, but I usually make it the name of the company the skin is for.
This is the best way to assure that there are no conflicts with other paintjobs.
