The Western Star is crashing my game
Hi there, it would appear that the ets2 western star is crashing my game, I even tried to make a fresh profile with no other mods and it still crashed it, it also makes some of the othe trucks in the MAN dealer appear with N/A instead of their actual names (I bought the Aussie pack 1 for ats and ets2).
Also the Kenworth T609, when I press f2 to bring up the left side mirror, it shows the same reflection that the right side mirror has. Any help for both appreciated.

No, the game still crashed ...did as you said, made new profile, new mod folder...added only the ws4800, went straight to a MAN dealer and as soon as I click on the arrow to browse, it crashes and when I disable mod its good again...and like I said in original post it makes some of the MAN trucks come up with N/A instead of the name of the truck

Just out of curiosity, I dropped my WS4800 into my mod folder. I'm also using a FH16 mod as well as Aradeth's VNL670. Everything works as normal.
Is this what you have? The fact that the game crashes at truck dealer suggests you have an older version because the truck_dealer_crash was fixed by RTA not long after the 1.32 release. OR 1.31 .. whatever it was when SCS changed def files for truck dealers.
Current version of WS4800 is v3.3KiwiOnTheCoast wrote:did as you said, made new profile, new mod folder...added only the ws4800, went straight to a MAN dealer and as soon as I click on the arrow to browse

Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts.. do.

I can't see a crash in that game.log ???
Seems the game loaded and shut down normally?
But here's a couple of things that may be of concern:
1:
This is an old mod.
Wehn you emptied your mod folder, all workshop mods are still being loaded. This suggests to me that somewhere in those dozens of WS mods, there is one causing an issue with your Western Star.
You can temporarily stop all workshop mods loading, by adding the :
-noworkshop
switch in the Launch Options explained below.
2:
This error means that the model size (truck.pmg) is larger than the default 22Mb. It doesn't usually cause problems, but when you consider that ALL of RTA's trucks exceed this default resource limit (whether in truck.pmg, or int-ext pmg, or interior pmg), and you have a LOT of RTA trucks in your mod folder as well as some of RTA trailers exceeding this limit, it may cause problems.
The T908 - which I adore - used to cause my ETS2 to 'crash on exit'.
There is, however, a solution.
In Steam Library, right click on Euro Truck Simulator 2.
Select "Properties"
In the smaller window that opens, click "SET LAUNCH OPTIONS".
If the options box is empty, copy and paste this: -mm_max_resource_size 80 -mm_max_tmp_buffers_size 960
into the launch options box and press "Okay"
If you already have something in the options box ie. -nointro .. then simply add a space after the last command in the box and then paste.
What does it do?
Well, the "80" refers to the size of each resource now being 80Mb. This is larger than any RTA pmg file. This is not 80Mb for all files combined, but for each resource loaded.
'max temp buffers' is 960 (default 112, I think) because the number of buffers (how many things can load at once) is calculated by:
max_tmp_buffers / max_resource_size
Default is 5, but you now have 11. This should both speed up loading times as well as improve FPS overall.
maximal values for these two parameters are:
max_resource_size: 100
max_tmp_buffers_size: 1000
Hope this helps.
Added after 5 minutes 14 seconds:
PS.
You have more than enough RAM (16Gb) to do this in #2 above.
And it also works for ATS. Same switches you copied and paste in ETS2 and the same process to get there.
After this change, you'll notice all the errors with resource buffers will have diasppeared and the game runs more happier :)

1:
Code: Select all
00:01:51.557 : <ERROR> Attribute 'glass_config' in game_data.sii is obsolete and should be removed! Glass panes configuration is now stored in '/def/vehicle/interior_glass_config.sii'.

That's something I'll also try out later. Thanks buddy!

They felt like crashes, the game eould just freeze up and shut down, over the folder I attached there was a crash log...would that be relevant? The other weird thing is I have all the same RTA mods running in ats, and have no worries.
Looking forward to trying what you said though, that is a very detailed description on what to do, I'll have to try it after work tomorrow, thanks for taking the time out for me...hopefully I'll have some good news to report back

The 'freeze' is possibly because of the RAM allocation during runtime. I noticed this especially with the T908 in ETS2. Mind you, the interior model was over 70Mb then, it's much better now though.KiwiOnTheCoast wrote:They felt like crashes, the game eould just freeze up and shut down, over the folder I attached there was a crash log...would that be relevant? The game, when running, has to have a certain idea of how much RAM to allocate for things. If you start throwing a bunch of large models at it, it could get 'sluggish' because everytime you finish a job, visit a repair centre, etc, the game re-loads that truck model. Especially if you have changed anything on the truck. Even a paintjob.
I'm not exactly sure why ATS runs better with big poly trucks.
The game.log.txt is replaced each time you quit the game.
The crashlog.txt is appended after each crash. If you open crashlog.txt and scroll downwards, you will see a new 'block' of text with a date at the start. Keep scrolling to the last block and it will tell you when your last actual crash was.
It is safe to delete both game.log.txt and crashlog.txt on a regular basis.

It's still hasn't worked , I really thought that was going to work....I have a Kenworth w900 workshop mod, and now if I disable it the same thing happens (game shuts down), then again, I tried what you said earlier again and created a new mod folder but still nothing. The game did seem to run a lot smoother with the code you gave me...not as sluggish. Found this in the crash log too:
Crash log created on: Wed Feb 27 15:15:48
Added after 2 minutes 14 seconds:
I had sold all Kenworth w900's before I disabled mod also
Added after 3 minutes 58 seconds:
Can't quite recall but I think it crashes when I disable the w900 mod

Wouldn't let me open it without getting an app from the store (DigiDoc4), then went to open it and got this message saing it couldn't open it.
ZipSerialize.cpp:76 Failed to open ZIP file 'C:\Users\shaw-\OneDrive\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\mod\ETS_RTA-Mods_WS4800_v3.3_Part3.scs'.
All the mods in the mods folder show with the paper icon (looks like a sheet of paper without writing on it) and not folders
