Fifth wheel and SCS trailers

Unread post #1by room217au » 28.07.2020, 16:25

Hitching up any SCS trailer or mod trailer to T908 v6.7:
The coupling clips the trailer body:

The trailer's pin doesn't sit correctly:

There are no collision boxes in any of the 4 coupling models on the T908.
There is one collision box in the truck model, but it is far lower than the actual fifth wheel coupling.
I even tried lowering the 'hook' locator, but nothing changed.

Any other non-RTA truck hitches this exact same trailer perfectly.
I am at a loss how to fix this.

room217au, collision is lowered on all trucks to connect the scs trailer
If the collision is in its place, you will not be able to drive in and hook the trailer

Thanks for your quick reply.

Yes I noticed this on the later versions of your trucks.

Advice please. What determines how the trailer sits on the fifth wheel? Is it the hook locator?

Do I need to lower the 'hook' point even further on the t908? Will that even make a difference?

room217au, You can do it in two ways
lower the hook on the trailer

lower the hook on the truck
hook_trailer.jpg

If you lower the hook on a truck, you can mount the SCS trailer and sit well on the fifth wheel.
But the SCS trailers and the RTA truck are of different scales and you cannot achieve the perfect result

Ah. Okay.
The T908 is my all-time favourite truck.
I will investigate lowering the hook point on the truck model.
Thank you :)

willy,
Each truck has its own locator for the trailer pin. I tried changing the trailer pin locator on the CAM b-double trailer (see pictures below) but for some reason the game crashed after modifying that locator. The only trailer I use with the 908 is that b-dboule trailer, so I changed the locator on the truck itself. It's great now, even with the SCS trailers.
I bought this truck years ago (in fact the first truck I bought from RTA) and it's always been a dog for fps. I set about learning Blender to modify the 908 to reduce lag while playing. This has been a stiff learning curve for me, and a lot of hours. Here's a brief summary:
- Removed daycab and flat-top sleeper from truck.pmg
- Removed RTA rims/tyres/nuts/covers/hubs and replaced with SCS defaults
- Removed all truck accessories that I don't use (tanks, exhausts, mirrors, bumpers, etc)
- Removed Cabin Accessories locators (because I only use gps and truck info)
- Reduced the polygon count in truck.pmg, interior model.pmg and t908_ext_interior.pmg
- Modifed the K200 bullbar with extra slots for accessories and made it fit the T908 bumper.
- Added custom rear bumper from T609 and added slots to it for Virat's lights.
- Added slots to bumper, cabin aero wings, and rear of cab for Virat's Blue Line lights mod.
- Added locators for my GPS and Truck Info models.

There's probably a bunch of stuff I haven't mentioned. It's a labour of love :)

This truck started life as a mod of some 360Mb. Now it's 180. Drives great, looks great. Love it every day.

Cheers
I must say I'm impressed with my effort too :smoke:
On a scale of 1 to 10 with Blender, I'm about a 1.25
always adding, changing, replacing bits n pieces.
